This week has seen a flurry of changes in the local media world. Jack Murphy, the 20-year host of “Murphy in the Morning” on WKZL 107.5 FM was fired. Murphy has already been offered a new job in the market, but was unable to take it because of a noncompete clause with WKZL. The show is now called, “The KZL Morning Show with Jared, Katie and Whitney.”
In the print world, the Greensboro News & Record picked up Travis Fain from the Winston-Salem Journal to replace staple government reporter Mark Binker who departed for WRAL in March. Editor Jeff Gauger said Fain will cover local and state government, and be part of a team with Amanda Lehmert and Joe Killian, who cover Greensboro and Guilford County government respectively.
And, probably of greatest interest to our readers, we are happy to announce that Karen Phillips will be starting as an editorial intern here on Monday, offering a new perspective and a fresh voice for our pages. YES! Weekly hasn’t had an intern in almost a year, and her help will be much appreciated. Keep an eye out for her byline.
