Anger makes people secede from reality Residents in 34 of the 50 states have signed a petition on the White House website to secede from the nation, and North Carolina is one of them. What does this mean? It means that in at least 34 states, people feel so disconnected from the federal government that they are prepared to separate themselves from the United States of America and form their own countries. For example, if North Carolina were to successfully secede, it would operate independently with its own laws and regulations, and the American flag would have one less star on it.

Fox 8 News posted a comment from High Point University assistant political science Professor Martin Kifer who said that these petitions probably won’t work, and “If we go back far enough it simply hasn’t ended well for states who have tried to do it.”

The Washington Times explains that the White House has promised to respond to any petition receiving more than 25,000 signatures within 30 days. Texas has more than 66,000 signatures already, and Louisiana has more than 27,000. North Carolina only needs about 7,500 more signatures to reach the magic number.

So how will the White House respond to this? What does this mean for our United States? Are we headed for another Civil War? Are we on the brink of collapse? Or is this just some misplaced anger that will fade before some unified progress in our country begins? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what country we wake up in tomorrow.
