NEWS AND VIEWS FROM INSIDE THE MEDIA BUBBLE

Political reporter turns McCrory flack

Kim Genardo, formerly of NBC Raleigh affiliate WNCN, interviewed Gov. Pat McCrory on Feb. 12. Ten days later, the governor’s office announced that she’d be serving as the administration’s next communications director. It raises all sorts of questions, most notably: Did Genardo know she’d be working for McCrory when she sat down with him for the interview? She claims in an e-mail to a Charlotte TV station that, though she covered both of his gubernatorial campaigns, she “never spoke to him or asked about employment. I have integrity.” Jim Romenesko’s media blog notes that she had been tweeting about the governor on her Twitter feed, @KimGNBC17, steadily until the day she announced her new job on Feb. 22. The feed has been dormant since then.
