YES! WEEKLY WINS FIVE

YES! Weekly garnered five awards from the NC Press Association’s News, Editorial and Photojournalism Contest. Our staff took thirdplace honors for in the Editorial Page category, our website took third place for General Excellence and the YES! Weekly Blog, ‘­yesweeklyblog.blogspot.com, won third place for Best Use of an Interactive Feature. Staff writer Ryan Snyder won a third place award in Criticism for his piece on Li’l Wayne, and reporter Keith T. Barber won second place in New Feature Writing for his cover story about Kalvin Michael Smith, “Sacrificial lamb.”’­


GREENSBORO COLLEGE TAKES THREE

The Greensboro College newspaper, The Collegian, won three awards from the NC College Media Association. Editor Paul Raker (Class of ’09) won a second place award for Opinion Writing for a column entitled “The dirty little secrets of the American military” about Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Co-editor David Rushing won an honorable mention in the Feature Writing category for a profile of a 96-year-old sculptor and GC alumna titles “Earline Health King: The story almost never told.” And the paper itself took third place in Best of Show. Congratulations to the school and its newspaper.
