The 21st-annual festival returns to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Saturday, Oct. 15

wbf_logo_durhamOctober 6, 2016– Durham, NC – With World Beer Festival Durham returning to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park this Saturday, All About Beer Magazine is excited to present the final beer list for the festival.

The beer list boasts more than 200 beers from more than 70 breweries. Of the breweries in attendance, more than half are from North Carolina. A dozen of the breweries are pouring at the festival for the first time. As in years past, the event will feature several “festivals within the festival,” including a North Carolina Beer Garden, a cask ale section, a Cider Garden and a Belgian Bier Garden (tickets for the Belgian Bier Garden are sold separately).

“We spend substantial time working with breweries to curate a festival beer list that’s reflective of the best in beer today,” said Chris Rice, president of All About Beer Magazine. “We are excited that there will be more than 15 beers at our event Saturday that were recognized as Recommended or Highly Recommended in the pages of All About Beer Magazine.”

Attendees can choose between Noon-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-10:00 p.m. sessions. General admission tickets are $45 in advance (or $55 at the door, if available) and include a tasting glass and unlimited two-ounce tastings from more than 200 beers. VIP admission tickets are $85 and include access to private bathrooms and a private lounge overlooking the ballpark, with an exclusive selection of rare and limited beers that are not available to the general public.

Tickets for the World Beer Festival can be purchased online at, or in person at Sam’s Quik Shop and Sam’s Bottle Shop in Durham.

Festivals within the Festival

The NC Beer Garden section boasts nearly 40 breweries pouring more than 100 beers this year, with a diverse selection of beers brewed in the Triangle and around the state.

Our Cider Garden debuted at World Beer Festival Durham last year, and was a hit there and at our subsequent festivals in Raleigh and Columbia, South Carolina. The Cider Garden returns to World Beer Festival Durham this year, with 16 ciders ranging from the traditional dry and sweet varieties to more experimental offerings like pear ciders, bourbon-infused ciders, hopped ciders, ginger ciders & more.

Educational Seminars and Presentations

One of the things that most distinguishes the World Beer Festivals is the educational component. In the festival’s “Art of Beer Experience” area, festival attendees can learn more about beer from some of the industry’s best and brightest. This year, All About Beer Magazine’s editor John Holl will deliver a Beer 101 presentation to discuss the magical combination of water, malt, hops and yeast, and how it all comes together. Gain a deeper insight in the flavors, history and process of brewing. Chris Rice, president and publisher of All About Beer Magazine, will moderate a Brewer’s Panel to discuss the state of the industry and hear about the latest news in the N.C. beer scene.

Optional Features

The Belgian Bier Festival section will feature a variety of beers from one of the world’s preeminent beer countries, with styles like Saisons, Tripels, Quadrupels, Gueuze and Lambic. Access to the Belgian Bier Festival is an additional $15 for general admission ticket holders, and included with VIP tickets.

Attendees can taste through six expertly-curated Beer and Cheese Pairings with our associate publisher Daniel Bradford and the cheesemongers from Whole Foods. There is a beer and cheese pairing from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for the first session, and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for the second session. Tickets for the beer and cheese pairings are $15 and can be added during checkout after selecting your choice of festival ticket.

Paint and Pour at Ponysaurus

At 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, fans can attend a special Paint and Pour event at Ponysaurus Brewing Co. in Durham. On the brewery’s upper patio, a local artist from Bull City Craft guides you through the process of painting an exclusive World Beer Festival canvas to hang on your wall. Tickets are $25 and include a pint of beer from Ponysaurus (wine is available as well).

Seasonal Beer Showcase

On Friday, Oct. 14, the Seasonal Beer Showcase will offer a more intimate tasting event on the night before World Beer Festival Durham. This is the second year for the Seasonal Beer Showcase, which this year boasts almost 30 different fall seasonal beers, with pumpkin ales, Oktoberfests, IPAs, barleywines and more.
