Dig it: This month’s Men’s Health magazine ranked the 100 most fast-food-addicted cities in the US, and, remarkably, the Triad fared pretty well. While Charlotte grabbed the No. 3 spot, Raleigh ranked No. 5 and Durham landed at No. 20, the only Triad city to make the list was Greensboro, which came in at No. 23. Nice work everybody! But if you’ve got the itch, Popeyes introduced wings to its menu this month and Greensborobased chain Cook Out has staked out new territory in Sanford. Also of importance in the Gate City, reputed home of the busiest Olive Garden in the country, that restaurant has expanded its menu to include, among other items, pork Milanese, fried lasagna and zeppoli, which are like Italian beignets, which are like doughnuts… sort of. Moving on…. Wednesday sees 6th & Vine’s Dinner & a Movie series featuring a screening of Tommy at 9 p.m. On Friday, Partners for Homeownership throws its Taste of Homeownership Gala at 6 p.m. at the Enrichment Center in Winston- Salem. The event, according to the press release, features gourmet food, beer, wine and dancing. For tickets see the site at www.partnersforhomeownership.org or call 336.725.8704. Also on Friday, Greensboro’s Fresh Market begins its weekend-long JDRF Sidewalk Sale that will feature homemade root beer floats, hot dogs and chocolate-chunk cookies which will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Saturday is Farmers Appreciation Day at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market with a Southern breakfast, music, exhibits and more fun stuff. Also on Saturday, Greensboro’s Fresh Market will feature a cooking demonstration: sweet and smoky ciabatta sandwiches with bleu cheese cole slaw at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; no reservations necessary. On Monday, Assemblies of Christ Church Ministries in High Point begins its weeklong Creole Super Supper that begins at 11 a.m. each day and features food from New Orleans’ Second Line Catering. The menu will include red beans and rice, jambalaya, po-boys, fried chicken, ribs and seafood plates. If you want, they’ll deliver to your door. Call 336.549.5712 for more details on that. And then on Tuesday, Greensboro’s EarthFare brings another Kids in the Kitchen event as it does on the third Tuesday of every month.
