There’s lots going on in the Triad restaurant scene this week — and that’s not even counting the biggest food-based holiday of them all, Thanksgiving, which of course goes down on Thursday.
The Hibachi Café has opened in downtown Greensboro in Smothers Place, serving sushi and other Asian cuisine. And Rana Loca in downtown Winston-Salem’s Community Arts Café will undergo a transformation on Dec. 1, changing its name to Encore American Bistro. The owners, staff and some of the Latin menu items will remain, as will the patio. More on this development to come. And Miami’s, a genuine Cuban and Caribbean restaurant, has opened at 2225 Old Salisbury Road in Winston-Salem.
Dewey’s has opened 12 Triad locations of its holiday store for cookies, cakes, cheese straws and other Moravian baked goods. See the website at www.deweys.com for more information.
High Point finally gets its own Olive Garden, which is currently being erected at 4006 Brian Jordan Place — big news for the all-you-can-eat soup, salad and breadsticks crowd. Greensboro finally gets its own Zaxby’s — the chicken chain made famous by Little Richard — at 1657 New Garden Road. And, not for nothing, Domino’s has introduced Stuffed Cheesy Bread, with innards consisting of cheese, bacon and jalapeño, or spinach and feta.
It is worth a mention that the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals chose a bird named Jake from Oak Ridge as its Turkey of the Year — which means he will not be eaten… this year, anyway.
Pig out on Thursday. It’s Thanksgiving.
Make sure to take a nap on the couch during the football game and eat a late-night sandwich.
Then, on Saturday, celebrate Small Business Saturday by visiting a locally owned and operated restaurant. Beforehand, hit the Grove Winery, where the No Leftovers Patio Party begins at 11 a.m.
All weekend Long, Total Wine & More will be pouring samples of New World cabernets and chardonnays, wines from South America, South Africa and New Zealand which are described as “exciting and delicious.”
