POP QUIZ

Welcome to a special edition of the YES! Weekly Pop Quiz. Typically, we ask elected officials about their jobs, but this week we ask members of the Winston-Salem City Council about their New Year’s resolutions. In the spirit of the season, there are no right answers and no wrong answers.

Questions

1. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? If so, what are they? 2. What was your biggest accomplishment of 2011? 3. What is your greatest hope for 2012?

Mayor Allen Joines

1. My New Year’s resolution is to try to bring fruition to three big economic development large projects in the early part of 2012.

2. The ribbon-cutting opening of the new Caterpillar plant.

3. I have a lot of hopes. On a personal level, I hope Rep. Womble has a complete recovery.

From a city standpoint, I’d like to bring more jobs to the area.

Derwin Montgomery, East Ward

1. I have no New Year’s resolutions. I have goals but not necessarily New Year’s resolutions.

2. I was proud to be a part of the Enterprise Project coming to fruition in the East Ward.

3. I look forward to seeing more progress in 2012, more citizen involvement and more action being taken to improve the lives of the people of the East Ward. I’d like to see more

action from both public and private entities being taken for the good of the community.

Robert Clark, West Ward

1. Lose a few pounds, spend a little more time with family.

2. As a businessman, managing my business through a very treacherous economy.

3. I’m hoping Europe will work through its economic mess, which should bring more stability to the American economy.
