Children of the ’70s rejoice! McDonald’s is bringing back the Shamrock Shake for St. Patrick’s Day, that green, mint-flavored milkshake which anyone over 40 knows was invented by the Grimace’s Irish uncle, Uncle O’Grimacey.

And Wendy’s is thinning out its staff by re-interviewing every employee at its restaurants and keeping only what the company deems “5-star workers.” Watch it, slackers!

In other fast-food news, Arby’s is planning a total overhaul: a new logo, new ad campaign, redesigned restaurants and a smaller, simpler menu.

If fast food makes you gag, take solace in the fact that a new Wolfgang Puck gourmet pizza joint is opening at Friendly Center in June.

Greensboro’s Sweet Shop celebrates one year in business. Darryl’s offers a free nitrogen blast — not to be confused with a nitrous blast — to the cocktails of anyone who checks into the restaurant on Foursquare.

And Winston-Salem’s Big Eat returns after a Valentine’s break. Try one of your favorite participating restaurants for half-priced signature menu items on Tuesday night.

On Thursday, the Frank L. Horton Museum at Old Salem Museums and Gardens offers a class, History of Winemaking, from noon to 1 p.m.

All weekend long, Total Wine & More offers tastes of lagers and ales, just to shake things up a bit. They also celebrate National Drink Wine Day, which sounds like something they might have made up.

On Saturday, the Winston-Salem Fresh Market holds a cooking demo from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring butternut squash, apple, pancetta and sage tortellini and shrimp Veracruz. Crisis Control Ministries holds a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Kids Clubhouse in Kernersville. And the Gateway Gallery holds a Mardi Gras at the Millennium Center, with a jambalaya crew from Gonzales, La. to prepare the meal. There will be live music, an auction, a second-line parade replete with floats and a king and queen will preside. Call 336.777.0076 ext. 209 for more information.

And if you’re in Greensboro on Tuesday, Table 16 holds a wine dinner featuring the wines of South America and Dionysus Wine Distributors at 6:30 p.m. Call 336.279.8525 to make a reservation.
