Pop Quiz

Welcome to the YES! Weekly Pop Quiz, where we ask politicians and public servants questions about their jobs. This week we deviate from custom — in honor of our back-to-school issue — with a quiz for UNCG students. The rules are simple: No research, no callbacks.

Q U E S T I O N S

  1. Can you name the two candidates for president?
  2. Are you registered to vote? Did you vote in the primary?
  3. Can you name one issue the candidates discussed this summer?
  4. What’s the most important issue for you this election?

Christine Edwards (junior, sociology)

  1. Obama and McCain
  2. Yes, I’m registered in Greensboro. I did vote in the primary.
  3. The war
  4. Taxes, since we’re in a recession and everything just keeps going up and up, I think it would be really important for them to work that out.
Nora Cannoi (freshman, hospitality and tourism)
  1. McCain and Obama
  2. Yes and yes
  3. Oil prices?
  4. I don’t know yet. (X)

John Russell (freshman, music education)

  1. Barack Obama and John McCain
  2. I am registered in my hometown, but I’m about to switch to Greensboro. Yes.
  3. I haven’t really been keeping up. I know the war in Iraq is still an issue. (-)
  4. Probably education and the war

Christopher Smith: (freshman, political science)

  1. Barack Obama and John McCain
  2. Yes I am registered. No I didn’t vote in the primary. (-)
  3. There’s a lot: Taxation, oil prices, the war… just throw a dart and they’ve talked about it.
  4. I think they’re all equally important. The energy crisis is rising, although it isn’t as bad as what they think. The war is coming to a conclusion. I think Barack Obama is preaching political change, and I think that’s on a lot of people’s minds.

A N S W E R S

  2. We hope so
