Saturday was Groundhog Day, but unless you’re 9 years old — or, apparently, a TV news producer — you probably don’t care. Groundhog Day is D-list, the holiday equivalent of Frank Stallone or one of the lesser Baldwin brothers, with none of the cachet of Christmas, the pageantry of Halloween or even the commercial activity of Mother’s Day....

BATMAN Inspired by the recent discovery that I can buy and read comics with an app on my phone, I give a list of the best comic-book superheroes — in my opinion. I start with Batman, a total badass. Batman has no superpowers, though he fears no one — he can even take down Superman, thanks to a stash of Kryptonite on his Bat Belt....

Filipino-American rapper Bambu hails from Watts, and his lyrics are relatable. One of the best parts: It features journalist-turned-emcee Rocky Rivera, whose songs are also peppered with political lyrics....

Writing is like a muscle. If you don’t exercise it, it will not be strong. Before this internship, I had not written in about three years, and I admit I was pretty rusty. Being an intern forced me to exercise my brain by thinking, reading and writing, and it helped me communicate in ways I hadn’t in years....

The new Xbox 720 is expected to launch this year. The PS4 is also coming out this year, with specs very similar to the Xbox. I guess gamers will have to decide which console will be their Mecca. Rumor has it that Apple has partnered with Intel to create an iOS watch, or iWatch, that would be bluetooth enabled and have a 1....

To an extent I offered my resolution on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur. Each year I make a list of the things I’d like to accomplish, which this time around entails taking more classes at Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies, making friends that don’t plan to move away before the year ends and traveling to Spain....

Let’s get this out of the way: Rumors that the world is going to end on Dec. 21 because of the end of the Mayan calendar are nonsense. Do cataclysms, fires and plagues break out at midnight on Dec. 31 because of the end of our calendar? No, we wake up with massive hangovers on Jan....

This is the newest video game console available on the market, and an update to the original Wii. It features a gamepad controller with a touch screen that can be used to control the game, and can be used when the TV is turned off. The controller has an accelerometer and gyroscope so the console picks up the motions of the player....

Almost a week after my foosball cover story [“Foos paradise”; Nov. 28, 2012] I am still thinking about that sport — the 13 little men on pivoting bars, the fast action, the passion of the people who play it. Foosball is a great game, no doubt, but the video-game revolution around 1980 brought it to its knees....
