To see what the hoopla was all about, I drove over to the Romano’s in Friendly Center and was preparing my pallet for a quick and cheap lunch. But it was to no avail. The $7 lunch special hasn’t hit the Greensboro market yet, which meant I couldn’t enjoy a prosciutto grilled cheese sandwich, or a chicken parmesan sandwich from the new Kitchen Counter....

The upstart Brookstown neighborhood of Winston-Salem may be one of the city’s most beautiful hidden gems. It is still relatively tranquil at night, unlike its counterparts of Fourth Street and Trade Street, which are buzzing with activity. At 6:30 pm, Meridian Restaurant is mostly empty with only a few customers at the bar....

This is what co-owner Dean Vial explained to me after I asked how Greensboro had changed since First Carolina Delicatessen opened in the summer of ‘86. A sister company of Lox Stock & Bagel, First Carolina Deli has been going strong for nearly 36 years and still stands proudly as an institution on Spring Garden Street just next to UNCG....
