Unemployment in nC CoUnties and Cities drops slightly

The Nc employment security commission announced that the unemployment rate in all 100 of the state’s counties dropped in the month of march. That may be cold comfort for idled workers, with rates hovering above 10 percent in 75 counties — down from 87 in February. orange county boasted the lowest unemployment rate, 6.4 percent, and Graham county along the border with Tennessee struggled with the highest rate — 17.2 percent. Unemployment rates for the Winston-salem and Greensboro-High Point metropolitan areas fall somewhere in the middle, with unemployment dropping from 11.1 to 10.1 percent in Winston-salem and from 12.4 to 11.5 percent in Greensboro-High Point. Hickory-lenoirmorganton is contending with the most sever unemployment, at 14.5 percent, while Durhamchapel Hill has the lowest, at 7.8 percent.
