Cash stolen from poker match

A poker match with about 30 players was underway in a building behind a house on Griffith Road in Winston-Salem at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 when three young black men armed with a short shotgun, a revolver and a semi-automatic weapon arrived. Two of the men entered through the front, and one through the side door. The man with the shotgun reportedly hit James T. Mullins, 63, and Mark C. Bowen, 50, in the head with the butt of his weapon, knocked them to the floor and took their wallets. The man then fired the shotgun into the wall, and the invaders ordered the other players to the floor and demanded their money. Having collected the proceeds, the three men left. The department’s criminal investigations division is investigating the armed robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 336.727.2800.

Deli robbery on Country Club Road

Christopher Henderson, 36, left TJ’s Deli on Country Club Road in Winston-Salem just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 5 and was approached by a black man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes who was armed with a handgun. The unidentified man grabbed a bank deposit bag from Henderson and ordered the deli employee to get more money from the business. The unidentified man then reportedly got into Henderson’s 2006 Mazda Tribute SUV and ordered the deli employee to drive, before making Henderson get out of the SUV in the area of Peacehaven Road and Aquadale Lane. The case is being investigated by the department’s criminal investigations division. .

Homeless-on-homeless vio- lence

Anthony Brooks, a44-year-old resident at Greensboro Urban Ministry was leaving BessemerCurb Market at about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 when he was alleg- edlyaccosted by another Urban Ministry resident, 41-year-old Donald Keith“New York” Smith, and 41-year-old Willie James McFadden. One of the menreportedly displayed a knife and demanded Brooks’ money.

ThenSmith and McFadden allegedly beat Brooks in the face with their fists,before stealing his cash and a pocket- knife and running away. Policelocated Smith and McFadden in the parking lot of Northeast ShoppingCenter, arrested them and charged them with robbery with dangerousweapons and assault inflicting serious injury.
