Phantom shooter in apartment
Winston-Salem police showed up at 138-B Weatherwood Court at about 4 p.m. on Nov. 14 after receiving a report about a weapon discharge. The officers reportedly spoke with someone who told them the shooter was still inside the apartment. Police secured the area and called in the department’s special enforcement team. No one was found in the apartment. Police continue to investigate.
Found in kudzu, bitten by dog
Nicholas Dwayne McKey, 31, reportedly appeared at the Fairway One Stop on South Broad Street in Winston-Salem at a little before 11 p.m. on Nov. 14 and displayed what is described as a long gun. McKey is said to have demanded money, but instead ended up taking several grocery items from the store and then fleeing on foot. Police established a perimeter and brought in the K-9 unit. McKey was found hiding in some kudzu growth on the 500 block of Wachovia Street. He reportedly refused to comply with commands during the arrest and was bitten by the police dog.

Shaquil Keon Best, 23, was sitting in his 1988 Chrysler Fifth Avenue in front of a house on Logan Street in Greensboro at about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday when a black man wearing a Friday the 13th “Jason mask” placed a handgun to his head and took the car, the police said. The Chrysler is described as light blue in color with a broken-out taillight and a North Carolina plate: YTN-3842.
