Jami Lynn Brandt, 40, said two black men came in her house on Circle Drive in Winston-Salem in the mid-afternoon of Jan. 26 and threatened her with a gun. The men reportedly shot and killed her dog when it started to bark. Brandt tried to stop the men from shooting her dog, and they shot her in the hand. The men fled on foot to Old Walkertown Road. EMS responded and treated Brandt at her home. The criminal investigation division is investigating the crime. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 336.727.2800.


Greensboro police officers appeared at Fast Mart on South Eugene Street on Jan. 27 in response to a robbery. The officers arrested 17-year-old Malek Moore for robbery. Following an investigation, Moore was also charged with robbing Fashion Town on and Charlie’s Grocery; with breaking and entering charges from Andy’s Burgers, Shakes and Fries, Pizza Hut, In Style; Joseph’s House, Nail Style and BP. All the alleged crimes took place in January.


Dennis Lewis Morgan, a 50-yearold driver for Willard Cab Co., had dropped 21-year-old Demetrius Montrell Davis off at an address on Salem Gardens Drive in Winston- Salem at about 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 31, when a group of males rushed the vehicle and started throwing stuff at him. Fearing for his life, Morgan fired a round at the perceived attackers. Morgan drove away, pulled over at a safe location and called the police. Davis was taken to Baptist Hospital where he was treated for a bullet wound to his ankle. He reportedly declined an offer of prosecution by the Forsyth County District Attorney.
