Sammy Lee Bynum, 62, and another man reportedly approached an elderly woman as she was getting out of her car at the Friendly Shopping Center in Greensboro on March 4. Police said that one of the men told the woman that a package was underneath her car, and then retrieved the package, which appeared to have a large amount of money in it. One of the men reportedly persuaded the woman to withdraw money from her bank as “good faith” and turn it over to them. Bynum has been charged with obtaining property by false pretense and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. The other suspect is described as a black man in his mid to late forties, who is 5 feet 4, with short hair, a medium brown complexion and wearing a tan brown suit.


Woodrow Ham, 57, was at home in Greensboro on April 21 when he reported that he was robbed by his friend, 26-year-old Jaquate Simpson. Ham said Simpson fired a shot into his bedroom wall, took Ham’s money and drove off in a white Mercury Marquis. Warrants have been issued for Simpson for robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill.


Jesus Antonio Moreno of Des Moines, Iowa, who turned 36 on April 24, was arrested by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office for trafficking 3.1 pounds of crystal meth/ice valued at $55,000. The sheriff’s office carried out the operation with the help of the Greensboro Police Department after learning that a man was trying to sell a large amount of crystal meth. Moreno was taken to jail and held on a $500,000 bond.


Two black men in their early twenties walked into Kristy’s Food Mart on North Liberty Street in Winston-Salem a little after 10 p.m. on April 23 with silver handguns drawn. After taking money from the store, they drove away in a light blue Kia Rio on US Highway 52. The first suspect is described as wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with a white skull pattern on the back, black pants with a white design on the back pockets and a dark-colored baseball cap, while the second was said to be wearing a green short sleeved shirt, a green baseball hat, a green bandanna and black pants.
