SHOOTING IN WINSTON-SALEM
A domestic dispute turned violent June 5 at around 9 p.m. on the 800 block of River Tree Lane. Winston-Salem police responded to a call regarding a shooting and found Bettina Gaither with two gunshot wounds outside of her house. Terrell Gaither was arrested at the 3100 block of Burke Mill Court and taken into custody without incident. Bettina Gaither’s injuries are not considered life threatening.
STABBING ON SPRING GARDEN
Greensboro police responded to a call for a stabbing at about 2 a.m. on June 5. Officers found the victim, Alejandro Martinez, suffering from stab wounds to the stomach and arm. Martinez indicated that he got into an altercation with an unknown man that eventually moved to the parking lot where the stabbing occurred. The suspect fled the scene before the arrival of officers. Martinez was taken to Moses Cone Hospital where he underwent surgery, though his injuries are not considered life threatening.
RAPE IN WINSTON-SALEM
A woman reported on June 4 that she was raped the previous day at about 6:30 p.m. by Fredis Baires Guevara at his residence on the 5000 block of Fulp Street. A police investigation resulted in the arrest Guevara without incident at about 11 p.m. at the intersection of Jones Road and Shattalon Drive. He is charged with second-degree rape and second-degree forcible sexual offense.
At about 8:30 p.m. on June 3 Greensboro Police responded to a call for a disturbance at the 1300 block of Lees Chapel Road. While on their way, police received an additional call reporting shots had been fired. Rance Slaughter was found dead at the scene and Michael Mays had a non-life-threatening injury. The investigation is ongoing.
WINSTON SALEM PIZZA HUT ROBBERY
Winston Salem police responded to an armed robbery call at the Pizza Hut on South Stratford Road at about 11:15 p.m. on June 4. A light-skinned black man in a black ski mask, dark hooded shirt and blue jeans reportedly entered the restaurant and pointed a gun at employees. He stole money and fled the scene on foot. The case remains under investigation.
