Shady cosmetic surgery
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office investigated a complaint received by the department of public health that 41-year-old Lauretta Michelle Cheek was performing cosmetic enhancement procedures without a medical license. Cheek operated her illicit business in rented Greensboro hotel rooms, according to the complaint. Detectives arrested Cheek and charged her with one count of practicing medicine without a license on Nov. 7. Cheek’s court date has been set for Jan. 11.
cop charged with assault
Winston-Salem police responded to a report of assault on a female at an Oakhurst Park Lane address on Dec. 4. When they arrived on the scene they ended up arresting one of their own, Officer John Berry, who was off duty at the time, on charges of assault on a female and false imprisonment. A court date is set for Jan. 12. Berry has been placed on administrative assignment pending an internal investigation.
All fun and games until…
People were leaving a house party on Boyd Street in Greensboro at about midnight on Dec. 10 when a fight broke out in the street. When gunshots were fired, a bullet struck Rico Corde. He was taken by EMS to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The shooter is described as a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks who was wearing a white tank top. arrested for killing NYC cop
Greensboro police had active warrants for the arrest of 27-year-old Lamont Pride for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and other felonies. Police believe he shot Rayshawn Maberson while he was walking across a parking lot on South Holden Road on Aug. 7. At some point, Pride evidently left Greensboro. On Monday, authorities arrested Pride for fatally shooting New York Police Department officer Peter Figoski, a 22-year-old veteran of the force who was responding to a robbery call in Brooklyn when he was gunned down.
