Virginia revelers try to flee police, fail A Greensboro police officer shot at an SUV as it drove towards him on South Elm Street in the first hours of the new year. Three occupants, all from different parts of Virginia, were arrested after police tried to stop the vehicle in connection to a reported shooting earlier in the evening, according to the police department. Mandatory investigations are being completed into the officer’s use of force, and the suspects are being held in Guilford County Jail.

Resident wakes up to break-in, thwarts it An attempted break-in was cut short when a homeowner on Rowe Street woke up to the sound of breaking glass and subsequently found someone trying to enter his residence through the broken window on New Year’s Day around 4:30 a.m., but when the suspect fled when he saw the homeowner. No property was taken. The investigation is ongoing, but the only article of clothing described in the police report is a black hat.

Three women stab, rob victim A woman was walking down English Street near Apache Street when three women approached her and stabbed and robbed her after an altercation on Dec. 26 at 9 p.m. The suspect who stabbed and robbed her is described as heavyset and wearing dark clothing. The injuries are non-life threatening and the victim was transported to the hospital.

Man shot as year draws to close Waller Alston Jr. was shot on Tuscaloosa Street at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve. Officers with the Greensboro Police Department found Alston lying in the street.
