The March of Dimes annual “March for Babies Walk” will be held on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010, at Vert Stadium which is on the campus of High Point University. All walkers must be registered for the 5K walk. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:00 a.m. Ed and Lorinda Charles and Jane Waller are this year’s chairs and hope to raise $50,000 at the event. Ed and Lorinda experienced a life changing event on September 5, 2008, when their granddaughter was born eleven weeks early weighing 1 lb. 7 oz. and only 12 inches long. Ed and Lorinda decided to become involved with this event based on their experience as Lorinda says, “Just a few short years ago, a 28 week old baby would not have survived. These miracles are possible with God, the research and work of the March of Dimes.” Money raised is used to support March of Dimes community programs and it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality by funding research to understand the problem and discover answers, helping moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies and supporting families by comforting them when their baby needs help to survive and thrive.
