Q: The Martin Scorcese film Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio was supposed to open in October. Now it’s scheduled for February 2010. Why the delay? — Teri D., Ann Arbor, Mich.

A: Martin Scorcese’s latest thriller, Shutter Island, is based on the book of the same name by Dennis Lehane (I’m almost finished reading it, so don’t tell me how it ends!). The author is the brains behind other hits such as Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone. The big-screen version of Shutter Island was ready to go in October; however, Scorcese and company decided to delay its release for several reasons. First, Leonardo DiCaprio would not be able to really help promote the movie because he’s filming Inception, which is due to be released next summer. And second, Paramount Pictures — which blames the recession for this abrupt change in events — felt this change might draw attention to some of its smaller films that will have a sure shot at Oscar contention — films like Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air.

Q: I loved the show “Dirty Sexy Money.” Is Season Two on DVD? — Barb H., Roseville, Mich.’

A: Season Two of the critically acclaimed NBC comedy/drama was released on DVD this past August. The three-disc collection includes all 13 episodes from the second season. Season One also is available on DVD as a three-disc collection containing all 10 episodes.

Q: I took the family to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida a few weeks ago, and while there we saw an IMAX film about the moon landing narrated by Tom Hanks.

There were other voices we recognized, like Morgan Freeman and Matthew McConaughey, and we wondered if there were other celebrity voices in the movie? — Celia W., Titusville, Fla.

A: Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon 3D, which was co-written and co-produced by Tom Hanks, is an exhilarating exploration of man’s first ventures to the moon. It was released in theaters back in 2005 and is now available on DVD. Many A- list celebrities contributed their voices to the movie. In addition to the ones you mention, they include Gary Sinise, Matt Damon, John Corbett, Bryan Cranston, Scott Glenn, Colin Hanks, Tim Matheson, Paul Newman, Bill Paxton, Peter Scolari, John Travolta, Rita Wilson, Neal McDonough and Donnie Wahlberg.

Q: Some years ago we had a video copied from the TV of a movie called Hobson’s Choice. Is it available on DVD? The leads were played by Sharon Gless and Richard Thomas. — Laris N., Farmington, Utah

A: Hobson’s Choice is based on the Harold Brighouse play written in 1916. The 1983 movie you’re asking about is a remake of the original 1954 film starring Charles Laughton and John Mills. The 1983 version is not available on DVD, but you can find a few used VHS tapes via amazon.com and ebay.com.
