(Winston Salem, NC)- Registration is now open for Destination Forsyth Tech summer enrichment program. The four-week program will run June 26-July 27, 2017. Classes will be held Monday-Thursday and costs range from $49-$129 per class per week.

Summers are meant to be fun. However, during the summer, some students experience the summer brain drain. On average, students can lose up to two months of academic knowledge from the last day of school to the start of a new school year. Destination Forsyth Tech’s goal is to offer a variety of classes that will appeal to a range of students and minimize the summer learning loss.

With over 30 classes, the summer enrichment program continues with its successful STEM-themed and art related classes and expands its class offerings to include drama, entrepreneurship, public service career exploration, math and reading classes.

“Last year’s summer enrichment program was a resounding success. We are delighted to continue the momentum by adding additional classes that are creative, educational and fun. All of the classes will teach the students problem solving and critical thinking in a fun environment,” said Ronald Berra, Director, Career Support & Scholarship Funding for Economic & Workforce Development at Forsyth Tech.

Destination Forsyth Tech will also offer several classes for older youth:

  • College Essay class for rising 11th and 12th graders
  • Babysitting fundamentals for youth ages 12-15, with an emphasis on teaching participants how to run their babysitting services as a small business
  • Pediatric first aid/certification program for youth ages 12-15

“We are encouraging parents to register early this year. Last year, we received a lot of interest in our STEM classes which filled up quickly,” added Berra.

Classes will be held Monday-Thursday from 9am-12 noon or 1-4pm. Morning and afternoon care is available. Students staying for both morning and afternoon class can stay during the lunch hour. Class sizes are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Classes are held on the Forsyth Tech West Campus, at 1300 Bolton Street.
