extended play

by Ryan Snyder

You’ve got the hump day blues, but so do Ray Burnette and Rob Massengale. Have some lunch with them today at noon in Center City Park, why don’t you?

Everyone pick a side! Neil or Doc and Da… uh, I mean Jeff Sipe or Hobex. Unlike the former, the latter are working together and will be known as Q-Bex on Thursday at the Blind Tiger. The Sweater Set joke and jive at the Green Bean, while the Patrick Rock Band gets down to Brass Taps. Velvet Truckstop country up Mellow Mushroom in Burlington, while Katelyn Marks and Crucial Fiyah Party on the Plank in High Point. In Winston- Salem, Rubberband stretches out for Alive After Five in Corpening Plaza.

On Friday, Jim Avett kicks it with Andy Friedman and the Joe Blevins Band at the Garage while his boys pimp it at Bonnaroo. Martha Bassett takes on the Blind Tiger, while the Dirty South Beatdown 5 with hosts Ed E. Ruger & the Iconoclast Crew goes down at Greene Street Club. Also, Jackass Flats at the Aquarius Music Hall.

Jews & Catholics play a special acoustic gig at the Record Exchange in Winston- Salem this Saturday, while bluegrass night with Dehlia Low and Johnsons Crossroads happens later at the Garage. For a surer thing, check out some blues and folk with Mama Got Saved at the Green Bean. Everyone has a gimmick. Mooseknuckle’s is that it is the best original cover band of all time. Find out whatever the hell that means at Greene Street Club, or see Gruv-Matic at Arizona Pete’s.

Hip-hop fans cannot miss Wiz Khalifa and Yelawolf with guest Ed E. Ruger at Greene Street Club this Sunday night. It’s a mandatory requirement to your membership in “the game.” Did someone say barbeque? The Carter Brothers serve it up chopped and sliced at the Garage, while Big Daddy Love works J. Butler’s in Greensboro and the Tired and True play Arts by Alexander in High Point.

On Monday, Christian rockers Rush of Fools begin a week-long stand at Wake Forest University, while the Tired and True are back on Tuesday at the Green Bean. Local band night is critically endangered, so hit one of the final events with no cover at the Blind Tiger featuring Come On Go With Us. Grant Peoples, Adam Carroll and Michael O’Conner team up at the Garage to close out the week, but don’t forget about Cowboy Mouth at Greene Street Club next Wednesday.
