extended play

by Ryan Snyder

Sam Frazier is a can’t-miss Tunes at Noon in Greensboro’s Center City Park today, and Doug Davis is a Solid Citizen at Alive After Five in Winston-Salem tomorrow.

Is it Heavy Rebel time already?

The Garage hosts the pre-party with Playing With Guns, Face Down Presley and King Sasquatch. In Greensboro, Natty Greene’s hosts the EMFfringe kickoff party with House of Fools and the Deluge, but don’t expect Instant Jones to wait around at the Blind Tiger. In High Point, bluegrass and blues fans can get their fix with Blue Ridge James and the Fairlanes at Party on the Plank.

On Friday, Eastern Music Festival jazz kicks off with Freeport Jazz at Printworks Bistro, while folk-pop duo Colleen and Paul play the Green Bean. The Blind Tiger haz a Walrus, and Greene Street Club goes on a Hypnotic Conquest with the Speakers, Skylar Brown and Derek Chase. Catch a rising star and see Lissy Rosemont & the Junior League Band with guest Pierce Edens at the Garage. Also, the Joe Robinson Band playing Downtown Jazz in Winston-Salem is not the same as the guitar virtuoso who won “Australia’s Got Talent,” but he’s awesome nonetheless.

On Saturday, Matt Walsh — not Matt Hill — plays the Heavy Rebel edition of Summer On Trade. Also in Winston-Salem, the Raving Knaves double the mean age at Elliot’s Revue and Conner Christian & Southern Gothic get promoted from Wild Wings Caf’ to play the Garage. In Greensboro, Subterranean Bums and Israel Darling rock the Blind Tiger, while Caleb Caudle & the Bayonets, David Dondero, the Lake Isle and the Goodbye House throw down at the Green Bean.

Say goodbye to the long weekend with Don Gallardo and Joe Blevins at Elliot’s Revue on Monday and catch some free tunes at local band night with Danger Muffin at the Blind Tiger on Tuesday.
