One of the last great shows at the Blind Tiger’s current location will surely be Q-Bex featuring Jeff Sipe and Hobex, while over in Winston-Salem, Christabel & the Jons replace Holy Ghost Tent Revival as this week’s Alive After Five band, and that’s a good thing. TBA is not the name of a band per se, it just means that Blair Crimmins will have company at the Green Bean.
On Friday, Pretty Things Burlesque, Freaky Fridayish and Transylvania Transport tickle the senses at the Blind Tiger, while Crystal Bright and Silver Hands play their CD release at the Green Bean. Congrats to Christy Johnson for becoming a 106.5 the End Girl, now please ask them to stop playing Nickelback 12 times an hour. Her band Dreamkiller plays with Chemical Youth, Seventh Epic and the Squids at Greene Street Club. In Winston-Salem, it’s Lovecraft and Jews & Catholics at the Garage.
It’s Saturday night live with Walrus at the Blind Tiger, while Reid Speed shakes the windows at Greene Street Club. I’ve been asked to tell you that Rehab plays Club 64 this particular evening, but you know, I’m saying of my own free will that the Brand New Life CD release party is also at the Green Bean. Matty Sheets & the Blockheads, the Leeves and the Raving Knaves play the Flatiron, and StART on the Vine benefits cancer patients and features renowned jazz singer Melva Houston at Childress Vinyards. The New Familiars rock Summer on Trade in Winston-Salem and latin pop sensation Hector “El Torito” Acosta, or “The Torito,” will satisfy the Coliseum’s bi-quarterly, Latino-targeted portion of their marketing plan at the War Memorial.
On Sunday there’s another pop punk showcase at Greene Street Club with Drop Dead Gorgeous, Sleeping With Sirens, Attila, Abandon All Ships, For All Those Sleeping, Woe Is Me and Scarlett O Hara. Remember when Funny Like a Funeral won all those “Best of…” awards? Good times. They’re playing with Kadets and Nicole Miglis at the Green Bean.
In the awesome band name category, the Blind Tiger hosts Local Band Night on Tuesday with Dirk Quinn & the Badderlooks. The Deadstring Brothers are awesome, and they’ll play the Garage with Guy Schwartz. Finally, Communipaw plays the Green Bean with Friend House and some guests.
