extended play

In Greensboro’s Center City Park, sing the mid-week blues with Logie Meachum during Tunes at Noon today. Later at the Green Bean, pick, blow or pound ‘em if you got ‘em at the Musical Playhouse with the guys from the Brand New Life. On Thursday, the Bean offers up Embarassing Fruits, On the Take and Decoration Ghost.

It’s funny how a search for “new age of radio myspace” gives you the Greensboro metal band’s Facebook page. Even Google won’t go there anymore. They’ll be at Greene Street Club with 100 Yorktown, the Afterlife Kids, Without a Fight and Momma Dixie, while Sally Spring plays the Green Bean. In Winston-Salem, Caleb Caudle & the Bayonets play the Garage with Tripp and Phillip Gibbs. Across the street, Badderlocks is at Elliot’s Revue. Tea enthusiasts might find themselves at home at Johnny & June’s, where Dam-Fi-No answers the question, “Why does Johnny & June’s continue to give Matt Boswell so many shows?” That question may also apply to, “What’s the deal with beach music?,” though you can just ask the Embers yourself in the heart of uptown High Point.

The Blind Tiger calls it an early night on Saturday, with an 8 p.m. set by Mark Kano and Rabbit. That gives you time to check out the Urban Sophisticates at Greene Street Club with J. Timber, Caitlin Watkins and Kitchen Sink Fiasco. John Coltrane is such a bad man that he hasn’t been whooped since the doctor spanked him… and he’s still looking for him. Thanks to Friends of John Coltrane for giving me this opportunity to misquote Harlem Nights, and for presenting their own version at Centennial Station in High Point.

The Garage gives you a two-fer with Sally Spring & the Electric Ted Lyons Experience playing the early show and Twin City Busker in the late one, while Lean In is at Elliot’s Revue. Outshyne plays Arizona Pete’s all weekend long, while Chris Lane Band is the Saturday entertainment at Johnny & June’s.

Sam Robinson’s 5 Gallon Groove jams at the Blind Tiger on Sunday, while Iwrestledabearonce spins tall tales with Eyes Set To Kill, Chelsea Grin, the Chariot and Vanna at Greene Street Club. On Tuesday, the Blind Tiger hosts Local Band Night with Grand Evolution.
