extended play

by Ryan Snyder

On Wednesday, Decoration Ghost and Hammer No More The Fingers make a fine one-two punch at Greene Street Club. They’re joined by Future Ghosts and the Quiet Brace.

Is it just me, or does Eric Benet remind anyone of Carl Weathers circa-”Arrested Development”? Throw him in a pot with Fantasia Barrino and a little bit of Kandi, and baby, you got a stew going Thursday at the Greensboro Coliseum. For Americana fans, the Green Bean hosts Blue Moose and the Unbuttoned Zippers with Laura Jane Vincent & Her God Damn Band. If you like it funky, Chris Carroll, Marcus Horth and Kelly Pace are the CC3 at the Blind Tiger.

Doby isn’t the American League’s first African-American player, but he’s still got soul and will be at the Blind Tiger Friday. Lake Isle jams with Crystal Bright & the Silver Hands, Channing & Quinn and Jacqui & the Woodsides at the Garage, while Charlotte’s ES Guthrie joins fellow freak-folksters Neulore at the Green Bean. If you like your country like you like your Jaeger, click your heels together and wind up at Rider’s in the Country.

The Ralph Roddenberry Band rocks it blues-style at the Blind Tiger, or get your scream on with My Hero Is Me with Knives Exchanging Hands and A Kiss For Jersey at Greene Street Club. For hip hop in strange places, there’s 2nd Revolution, Scottie Flippen, Renissance and Mr. Mohalyn at the Garage. In indie rock news, Embarrassing Fruits plays the Green Bean and Jews and Catholics is at CFBG.

Destroy what’s left of your vocal cords on Sunday with the great Senses Fail, who will be joined by Bayside at Greene Street Club. Jazzhounds, consider this your notice to see the Chad Eby Trio at the Green Bean.

Christmas music Manheim Steamrollers its way into your brain on Monday at the Greensboro Coliseum. For something less dramatic, the Angel Band Foundation is hosting a jam and potluck out in Trinity with FODFest founder Todd Mack and a bunch of area musicians. If it says Angel Band, you know it’s good. Just bring a dish. On Tuesday, Now You See Them gives you something to do at the Green Bean.
