extended play

by Ryan Snyder

At last, 2011 is fully underway, and the first full week of regular bookings opens with the Leeves and Big Attack!’s tour kickoff with Switchblade 85 at CFBG, while Decoration Ghost, Junior Astronomers and Ladycop get frisky at Legitimate Business.

Crazy Young & Neil Horse? Young Horse & Neil Crazy? Maybe it’s Crazy Neil & Young Horse. Whomever it may be, there will be Neil Young covers at the Garage this Friday night alongside the Red Lipstick Society. Creep-boppers Ghost Beach are now Weird Snakes, and they’ll be joined by Comrades and Stillglow at Legitimate Business. John Howie Jr. and best gal Billie Feather just might put on their punk pants at the Green Bean for their performance as the Sweethearts, if you’re lucky. Pin Ups is in the basement of Chumley’s, and they’ll have a show by the Quiet Brace and Colossus. Ed E. Ruger, Stitchy C and DJ Phillie Phresh host the Triad Takeover featuring emcees Celinski, SCP, Guilty County, Kain, Jae Blacc, Young Stacks (LGi), Kayo Bracey and Arsenik at Club Orion. Left Outlet, Releas’D Chaos and Sinners For Saints play the metal at the Somewhere Else Tavern, while Slippery When Wet covers Bon Jovi at Greene Street Club.

Zach Tilley, Zealous Endeavor and Snakes Swallow Tails do the folk/pop thing at the Green Bean, while NIHM and Haiz Rail throw it back to 1985 at the Somewhere Else Tavern. CFBG hosts straight up rock by Burma, Ratpoospa, FUSS, Torch Runner and Snake Baptist. There’s fake punk by Mercy Mercedes at Greene Street Club with guests Without a fight, the Future Is Me, Divided By Friday and Sumerlin, though Jant at least offers a wicked laser show. For the real deal, Grant Hart of Hüsker Dü is playing the Garage with the Venables in tow. Husker don’t miss that one. And, as a public service, we’re obligated to announce that the Wahnder Lust at Elliot’s Revue has been moved from Jan. 18 to Sunday, Jan. 16.
