Tonight at Ziggy’s, the Black Angels bring a blitz of Technicolor psych jams with Dead Meadow and Spindrift, while Marcus Horth turns the page with the Backburners at the Blind Tiger.
SECCA begins its fall season on Thursday with exhibits and a performance by the hip-hop/electro diva Miss Eaves, and at Ziggy’s, you ain’t missin’ John Waite at all. Lumbee soul and R&B outfit Dark Water Rising plays the Blind Tiger, while Charleston invades the Green Bean with Ryan Bonner & the Dearly Beloved, Crowfield frontman Tyler Mechem, Luke Cunningham and Emily Lynch.
I think Todd Snider is an alright guy, and you will too. He plays Ziggy’s Friday, while Gavin DeGraw, David Cook and Carolina Liar come to Wake Forest, and the Family bring the jams to the Blind Tiger. Najee plays a little too smooth for my blood, but his chops are undeniable. He plays the High Point Theatre Saturday and
Steve Everett does acoustic at Triad Stage. LA indie-pop trio Lady Danville performs at Wake Forest. The Grand Ultimatum, Irata and Stickers for Cigarettes play loud prog at the Flatiron, while Illicitizen beings new wave to Elliott’s Revue. Muscle Shoals folk singer Hannah Aldridge plays the Green Bean with Revolution Mill, while guitarist and composer Walter Strauss hits the Underground Café. Noisy rockers Free Electric State, Honey Rider and White Rifles team up at Krankies, while it’s New Age of Radio and Fuhnetik Union at the Korner Lounge. An electronic show at the Garage? This Is ART kills it on the bass and four-track, and he’s joined by Futexture. Plain White T’s play Greene Street Club, but that’s all you. Is it too early for Christmas music? Not if it’s Robert Earl Keen, and he’s got a good one at Ziggy’s.
John Mellencamp will sell you a Chevy at the War Memorial on Sunday, and Queensryche sing about drug-addicted assassins and prostitute nuns at Ziggy’s. Sick/Sea and GoryanGO bring power pop to the Green Bean, and Zongo Junction make it a Fela-bration at the Blind Tiger. For the real heavy stuff, there’s the Chariot at Greene Street Club.
It’s a zoot suit riot with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at Ziggy’s on Monday, and the Swell Season play wounded pop at Wake Forest.
