fit Capture Presents: A Night of Opulence

by Kashif Stone

Minimalisticdecorations, an upscale atmosphere and high fashion are a few things to expectat fit Capture’s upcoming showcase. “A Night of Opulence,” hosted by UNCGreensboro alumni Christopher Devalle, intends to highlight works of some ofthe best up-and-coming designers, as well as artists, in the area. Aninnovative iPhone application, fit Capture tracks real-time fashion trendslocally and globally with a mission to make fashion trends visible to all.Users are able to keep up with what’s currently hot in fashion and even tagtheir own outfits to become trend setters.

Created by Devalle, the idea of fitCapture came about during his junior year of college. He wanted to create a go-tofashion source for both men and women. “I wanted to insinuate the idea thatfashion is universal,” said Devalle. “That we are all connected by the dailyfashion choices we make when we chose to wear clothes. Our fashion choicesdefine our unspoken expression of self and I want people to easily find a stylethat fits them and have the capability to express that to the fullest.”Development of the app began in 2015 and was officially launched in February. With fashion styles in nine diverse categories, the app is sure to give users asense of what to wear. Within each category, Devalle and his team usealgorithms to calculate which brands and styles are trending in real time.Designers are given their own separate category where they can display theirlatest styles and allow users to purchase merchandise, subscribe to theirfashion newsletter and find a local store. An app meant for all, fit Capturetargets models, stylists, fashion forward individuals and even the fashionablyshy.

Initially, “A Night of Opulence” was intendedto be a launch party for fit Capture, however Devalle thought the idea ofhosting a fashion show which showcases how the app operates is more suitable.Cicily Cummings, the shows coordinator, plays an integral part in developingthe show in to what it has become. “Without Cicily, the event will not be whatit is,” said Devalle. “We have been planning this event since October 2015 andCicily has been responsible for gathering the designers and making sureeverything is in order. She provides valuable feedback for what brand userswant to see.” Additionally, Cummings was a part of the beta testing group forthe app and is also one of the designers in the show.

Quay “Kain” Weston is another keyplayer behind organizing the event. Weston is responsible for planning themusical portion of the show and managing the artists. Tully Ink Solutions ofAtlanta are providing visuals for the show by displaying flyers, brochures, andimages during the event.

An elegant event within itself, thevenue will feature large chandeliers, an equisetic waterfall, and a giant fishtank. Another amenity is the wine bar where guests can grab a drink and networkduring the show. Cummings is the mastermind behind the set-up of the venue. Hergoal is to present the fit Capture app and highlight the many artists anddesigners in the show.

“A Night of Opulence” will includea variety of fashion designers and musical performers from all over the stateand east coast. Designers to expect inthe show are: NC A&T Fashion Merchandise and Design student Jessica Brooks;freelance clothing designer Sherri Graham, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; MichaelCherry, co-owner of cherryDOTdork in Raleigh; Monteray Williams and DelshannaDouglas of Keyyimage in Greensboro; and Cicily Cummings and Kayla Moffett ofGreensboro, owners of Modern Muse The E-Shop. The show will also feature two spoken wordpoets: Ryan the Humble, of Charlotte and Denzel Flemming of Kinston, NC.

“Ianticipate guests to have a memorable experience by not only seeing the fitCapture app live in person,” said Devalle, “but also by being entertained bythe artists and designers while networking.” A 2.0 version of fit Capture willrelease later this year with revamped trending features in the app’s shop, andupdated user profiles.
