It’s billed as the World’s Unhealthiest Burger and because of that appellation I just had to try one out — the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger.
I had seen this amazing creation being put together on a recent episode of my favorite show, “Man v. Food,” in which the foods of minor-league baseball clubs were featured.
The Gateway Grizzles, a ball club outside of St. Louis serves up the fastfood indulgence.
Well, since I can’t drive to St. Louis I created the bad boy in my own kitchen.
I took two delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts for buns, slapped on a big burger right off the grill, added cheddar cheese, two slices of bacon and dug in. It’s sticky and sweet and good. The hot burger makes the donuts softer and their sugary coating gets all melty.
I put away two, figuring the caloric intake at over 2,000, and then went for a walk. To burn that off I would probably have to walk from Greensboro to Winston-Salem and back. So eating something this good and this bad on a regular basis is not reality. But on special occasions it is more than possible. I also like the idea of supporting our local businesses, and Krispy Kreme is one of my favorites.
One thing I would like to encourage is for the Dash, our new baseball team in Winston-Salem, to add these to their menu. It’s local! It’s unique! It’s good, and ball games are special occasions where people eat more stuff than usual.
