Time is also running out for Piedmont Triad arts patrons to enjoy the impressive lineup of holiday performances in the area like The SantaLand Diaries at Triad Stage at Pyrle Theater’s UpStage Cabaret. A hilarious retelling of David Sedaris’ NPR radio essay, the production features the talents of Jim Moscaster, who regalesall with his humorous story of that Christmas when he sacrificed his dignity to play a department store elf. SantaLand will play Thursday night through Saturday night with 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows.
Playing at Triad’s Main Stage is Beautiful Star, the biggest hit in the venue’s history. Beautiful Star tells the story of Reverend Ledbetter and the Open Heart Community Fellowship as they gather for their rendition of the Christmas story. The heartwarming tale plays through Dec. 23. Shows on Thursday and Sunday all next week begin at 7:30 p.m., while Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 8 p.m. Beautiful Star will also hold 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival’s production of A Christmas Carol at the High Point Theatre wraps up this weekend. If you’re like me, your holiday wouldn’t be complete without a retelling of Charles Dickens’ timeless tale. Thursday night’s performance will start at 7:30 p.m., while shows on Friday and Saturday start at 8 p.m. The final performance will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.
The High Point Theatre will also present a special holiday treat for Piedmont Triad audiences on Tuesday, Dec. 22. It’s a Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio Theatre offers a glimpse into what it would be like if Frank Capra’s beloved 1946 film was retold as a live radio play.
