Grammy Nominated Jazz Ensemble The Rippingtons featuring Russ Freeman Returns to the High Point Theatre
High Point, N.C. – Since the band’s founding in 1986, The Rippingtons have gained acclaim as a leader in contemporary jazz, with a hearty dose of blues, soul and fusion added for good measure. Each of their 22 albums has climbed to one of the first five Billboard spots, with five going all the way to #1. Jazz Monthly has hailed them as “among the most consistently appealing mainstays” in the rich history of the smooth jazz genre. The Rippingtons will perform at the High Point Theatre on Sat., Oct. 27, at 8 PM.
Innovative smooth jazz artists set to transform audience at High Point Theatre with music inspired by the spirit of wander lust Sat., Oct. 27, at 8:00 pm
At the creative heart of the band sits composer-guitarist-keyboardist Russ Freeman, who places his finely honed musical talents and incredible ear for melody in service to a vision of a relaxed and easygoing funk with a beautifully energetic vibe. His compositions often draw inspiration from exotic destinations, such as Monaco, Kilimanjaro and the Cote d’Azur. And this is fitting, as his songs explore a broad spectrum of cultural influences – from the Latin rhythms of Calypso and flamenco to the bright colors of Middle Eastern sounds – as they take audiences on journeys of imagination.
Over the years, the band has served as a launching pad for the careers of today’s most respected contemporary jazz musicians, most notably saxophonist Dave Koz and pianist David Benoit. So, audiences at a Rippingtons concert are often treated to not just some of the finest jazz of the past quarter century, but also an opportunity to see bright, new stars on the rise.
“As we enjoy our Autumn colors, our thoughts return to lazy days spent lounging in our favorite vacation spots,” says High Point Theatre Executive Director David Briggs. “The Rippingtons will offer a wonderful opportunity to reminisce, or even get into a getting-away state of mind, through a transporting musical experience.”
The show gets underway at 8:00 PM on Saturday, October 27. Tickets are $30-$45, available at the box office, by calling (336) 887-3001, or online at www.highpointtheatre.com
