Greensboro Farmers Curb Market to Host the Go Green Annual Spring Plant Sale Sunday April 23, 2017

plant saleGreensboro, NC – The public is invited to attend the Go Green Annual Spring Plant Sale at the Greensboro Farmers Curb market from 9am – 2pm. The event features spring plants, potting soil, hanging baskets, tools, garden art and services with a wide appeal, from the home patio gardener to the budding urban farmer. This is the largest all local, grower-direct plant sale in the area.

One will find a variety of native and specialty plants, heirloom vegetables to blooming beauties, from which to choose, including:

Flowers & Herbs: gerber, shasta and English daisies, impatiens, lantana, aloe vera, medicinal herbs, petunias, marigolds, hanging baskets, basil, thyme, oregano, bay leaf, chives, lavender, mint, parsley, tarragon, rosemary, bee balm, calendula, cilantro, fennel, and sage to name a few

Perennials & Annuals:  rhubarb, artichoke, French sorrel, nasturtiums, alpine strawberries, geraniums, dianthus, yarrow, coreopsis, cardoon

Specialty Plants:  fragrant peonies, yacon, papaya seedlings, succulents, ivy topiaries

Trees & Bushes:  fruit bearing and ornamental trees, blueberry and blackberry bushes, Japanese Maples, dogwood trees, English boxwoods, rose bushes, and yellow bell bushes

Vegetable Starters:  heirloom tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, arugula, lettuce, cucumber, squash, tatsoi, cabbage, broccoli, peas, chard, mustard

Garden Art & Accessories:  hypertufa garden accents & containers, handmade garden tools, birdhouses, Blue Bird boxes, bat boxes, window boxes, mosaic planter & frames, garden apron & tool bags

“They know it because they grow it!” Producers, as well as community gardening experts, will be available to give advice or answer questions about soil, pest, lighting and watering. Expert growers will be available to recommend the right greenery for your garden space. Mindenhill Farm will host a Container Planting demonstration during the market.

New this year: the market launches a pollinator program. Did you know that bees are among the most important living creatures on earth? They pollinate over 80% of all flowering plants, including the top human food crops. Help protect them and other pollinators like butterflies, bats, and birds by planting flowering plants that attract and support them. Look for special “bee” tags on plants like wild indigo, Virginia spiderwort, purple coneflower and blazing stars. A limited number of free pollinator garden seed mix packets available at the managers desk, first come first serve.

Shoppers can enjoy hot, made to order doughnuts from Yee Haw Doughnuts, fresh coffee and other brunch options will be on site from 9 am – noon.

Patrons are encouraged to bring boxes and bags for plant purchases; limited boxes will be available. Volunteers will be available to assist in loading or carrying purchases to vehicles.

 Location and Hours of Operation – The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, is located at the corner of Lindsey Street and Yanceyville Street across from the War Memorial Stadium and operates year round on Saturdays 7 am to 12 pm and seasonally on Wednesday 8 am- 1 pm (April 19 – Dec. 22). The Market is an indoor facility with free admission, WiFi, and plenty of free parking as well as an ATM on site.
