Krystien Duarte Student

This week’s Page Three model is a young’un, just 19 years old, fresh out of High Point Central High School and ready to begin preparing for adulthood with enrollment in GTCC’s culinary program. Krystien Duarte is a native of Honduras, and though she moved to the Triad when she was 7 years old, she remembers eating mangoes on her grandmother’s farm and playing in the sunshine. She says she’s a fan of Asian food, largely because she works in a Chinese restaurant, but that when she gets down in the kitchen the rocks it Latino style. “My mom makes homemade tortillas with beans and Honduran cheese; it’s one of my favorite dishes,” she says. “When my dad goes to Honduras, he brings home the beans and the cheese, too, so it’s like really homemade.” She also cooks on the dance floor, ably stepping through salsa, merengue and bachata, “just for fun,” she says.
