Steffan Winbush, 41, knows his way around the kitchen. The New Jersey native, who relocated here five years ago, is the executive chef at Boomr’z restaurant in Winston-Salem. “I love the area and moved here for a better environment to raise my son,” said Winbush. His training began at Culinary Institute of America, and he came to Boomer’z after turns at the Grandover Resort and Bleu, with stints at the Rainbow Room in New York City and some celebrity catering in between — he’s cooked for Whitney Houston, Tom Cruise, Robert DeNiro and even President Bill Clinton. “Everything is fresh,” he said of his food. “We buy all our produce from local farmers and make all our sauces and marinades from scratch. We have specials every day and my favorite item on the menu is our aged ribeye. It’s hand cut, grilled and served with our special marinade.”
