It wasn’t until recently that paper conservator Tahe Zalal started volunteering on the membership committee for the Weatherspoon Art Museum, and you can hear the excitement in her voice. “This is one of the best groups of people I’ve ever worked with,” she said. “Their enthusiasm is making it even more worthwhile.” The committee is planning a free masquerade party at the museum on Oct. 28 from 7 until 10 p.m. in conjunction with the Persona: A Body in Parts exhibition. Teams of people will greet interested attendees with makeovers including hair alterations and body paint as part of the lively event that will include DJs and a set by Estrangers. Zalal and the rest of the committee plan to throw similar events once a season with the goal of getting new people into the museum, and they aren’t the only ones excited about it: local businesses donated desserts (which will be free) and beer (two free with membership) to help the party along.
