Lauren Melvin WFMY News 2

WFMY News 2’s Lauren Melvin loves telling stories. The 26-year-old Pennsylvania native grew up in a small town she says no one heard of until Sept. 11, 2001 when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville. “It’s tough to describe that as my hometown, but it seems that’s truly how people recognize it,” she says. Melvin joined the team at News 2 last year after leaving a job as a general assignment reporter and morning anchor at an NBC affiliate in Pennsylvania. Before that she spent time in the nation’s capital as an intern at CBS News and in the White House. “I love politics,” she says. “It’s so exciting and I even considered a career in politics in media relations.” Along with telling stories, Melvin produces and reports News 2’s Restaurant Report Card which airs every Thursday at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. “It is very important that we all know how clean and safe a restaurant is if we’re going to eat there,” she says. Melvin is a 2007 graduate of George Washington University, a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a runner. She’s currently training for her fifth half-marathon. She’s also a lover of what she calls “old-school music.” Welcome to town, Lauren.
