David and Jennifer Coulombe Swing dance teachers

Tae kwon do class may seem like an unlikely place to meet a future spouse, but that’s exactly what happened with Jennifer and David Coulombe. Once they were married, the couple turned to swing dancing as an inexpensive date. Now, they teach a weekly swing dance class — Coul Swing — in Winston-Salem, and have since 1998. “There’s a lot of parallels with some of the martial arts’ kicking elements and kicking elements in Lindy Hop,” David said. Jennifer, who is a corporate trainer, is classically trained in ballet and jazz. David works for GMAC Insurance, is a Tae Kwon Do instructor at Wake Forest University and an all-region volleyball player. The pair teaches swing, Lindy hop, the Charleston and jazz movement together and Jennifer teaches hip-hop and international rhythms dancing in addition to yoga, Pilates, strength training and martial arts. Together, they have taught around the world.
