The first season of the web series “Come Take a Walk with Me” was a bigger hit than Mina and Siler could have expected, with one episode reaching around 44,000 views on YouTube. The couple created the series to showcase realistic issues LGBT youth face in African-American communities. Siler loves reading lesbian novels, and Mina suggested she write a story of her own. The first season follows the fictional Channing as she finds and accepts herself during college, and is an amalgamation of their life experiences and fiction. The pair wanted to create something that they could relate to, filming the series in Greensboro and paying for the first season themselves. Siler and Mina created Lady Luck Films and recently reached full funding on Kickstarter for Season 2, though people can still donate on the site to help with production costs. They plan to release the second season in the September.
