Man Accused of Committing Multiple Crimes Against College Students in Custody


A Greensboro man accused of burglarizing and sexually assaulting college students was arrested on Nov. 22 following an extensive investigation by multiple divisions within the Greensboro Police Department.

Granderson Richard Murphy, 21, of 3600 Hewitt St., was arrested by detectives shortly before noon last Tuesday in connection with a series of offenses that may have begun as early as August. He was taken into custody near Beech St. and Bluford St.

Witnesses interviews, tips, evidence, and the findings of the investigation have connected Murphy to two incidents on Spring Garden St., and another on Lindell St. For these incidents, he is charged with: Felony Attempted Second Degree Forcible Rape; Felony First Degree Burglary; Felony Attempted Breaking and Entering; and, Misdemeanor Sexual Battery.

Detectives believe Murphy may have been involved in additional break-ins of ground floor residences on and around Hewitt St. In some of these incidents, female students were inappropriately touched as they slept in their beds.

Murphy is confined in the Guilford County Jail on a $100,000 secured bond.

As the investigation continues, more charges may be forthcoming.
