Margot Horney Announces Her Campaign for US House of Representatives
Democrat Hopes to Represent NC-06
Greensboro, N.C.- Margot Horney is running for the US House of Representatives in North Carolina District 6. This district, as currently configured, represents Alamance County, Caswell County, Chatham County, Lee County, Person County, Randolph County, Rockingham County, and part of Guilford County. (It is unclear if this district will be changed due to the ruling on Jan. 9 by a panel of three federal judges which declared North Carolina’s congressional map unconstitutional. They ruled that Republicans had drawn the map seeking a political advantage.) Horney has declared her intentions to run for Congress regardless of the configuration of the final version of the congressional map. US House District 6 is currently represented by Republican Mark Walker.
Horney intends to be a voice for all North Carolinians. Her campaign is emphasizing four crucial issues which she sees as fundamental to Democracy: Education and Prosperity; Women’s Rights and Ratification of the ERA; Fair and Equitable Immigration; and Health Care Guaranteed to All through expansion of Medicare.
Although she has never held public office prior to this campaign, she feels strongly that now is the time for changes to come to Washington, particularly in the form of equal gender representation: “While 51 percent of the American population is female, only 20 percent of Congress is female. How can our voices be heard when we are so vastly outnumbered?”
