Commuity leader Nettie Coad dies

Nettie Coad, a longtime community leader in the Greensboro neighborhood of Ole Asheboro, died Tuesday morning. Coad was 76.

Coad had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer, according to Quentin L. Richardson, a friend and colleague, and was serving on the Guilford County Health Disparities Commission at the time of her death.

An outspoken advocate for the revitalization of her neighborhood, Coad served as chair of the Greensboro Redevelopment Commission. She gave testimony to the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission in 2005 and ran unsuccessfully for city council in 2009.
