The show dates are March 30 – April 9. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 2 PM. All tickets are $15 except for Thursday, March 30, which is Pay What You Can night.

The play, which premiered off-Broadway in 1998, is both a romantic comedy and thought provoking drama. It tells the story of Callie and Sara, two women who unexpectedly fall in love and exchange a kiss in a public park in New York. The kiss leads to a violent attack that transforms their lives in ways they could never have anticipated.

Winner of a GLAAD Media Award, ’Stop Kiss’ is a beautifully constructed modern play that is as painfully relevant now as it was when it premiered at the Public Theatre in 1998. It is performed in a non-linear fashion, weaving together two timelines in a way that heightens the already strong emotional impact of the story.

The characters include the two women, their ex-boyfriends, a police detective, a witness to the crime and a hospital nurse.

The production is being directed by Patty Adkins. The cast features Carolyn Boucher as the tough New Yorker, Callie. Rachel Bammel is co-starring as Sarah, the soft-spoken young teacher who has come to NYC to escape what she sees as the suburban mediocrity. The cast is rounded out by Ben Brafford as Detective Cole, Mike Shapiro as George (Callie’s ex-boyfriend), Matthew Lopez at Peter (Sarah’s ex-fiancé), Maxine Isaacs as Mrs. Winsley (witness to the attack), and Samantha Absher-Harris as the nurse that cares for Sarah after she falls into a coma following the attack.

Tickets are $15 online or at the door. United Congregational Church of Christ is at 400 W Radiance Drive in Greensboro. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit or email artistic director, Jay Smith at
