Piedmont Wind Symphony Will Perform a First-of-its Kind Holiday Concert with the Wailers

urlWinston-Salem, NC (November 14, 2016) – The Piedmont Wind Symphony (PWS) is proud to announce the annual holiday pops concert, The Wailers: A Caribbean Christmas, under the direction of new Music Director & Conductor, Matthew Troy. This first-of-its-kind concert will be Friday, December 16, 2016 at 7:30 PM at the LJVM Coliseum.

The Wailers, who achieved international fame during their longtime association with Bob Marley, will be performing with a symphony for the first time ever. Their music has remained popular through the years among audiences of all ages. The concert will open with a performance by the Piedmont Wind Symphony with The Wailers joining PWS for the second half of the concert for a collection of the group’s greatest hits. The Wailers will perform hit songs, “One Love,” “Three Little Birds,” “Could You Be Loved,” “Get Up, Stand Up,” “We’re Jamming,” and many more.

About Maestro Matthew Troy: Maestro Matthew Troy is one of the most versatile and active conductors in America today. Troy is currently the Music Director of the Piedmont Wind Symphony and the Education Conductor of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. He has conducted extensively in the United States for a wide variety of performances and has appeared on the podiums of the Rochester Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony, Portland Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, UNC School of the Arts Symphony, Salisbury Symphony, and is the conductor Cannon Music Camp in 2015. Troy is familiar to local audiences due to his previous work as Associate Conductor with the Winston-Salem Symphony from 2009-2014. In this role he conducted on Classics, Pops, Handel’s Messiah, Discovery, Education, Holiday Pops, Side-by-Side, and Special Event Gala concerts. Recently Troy was selected to conduct the Oklahoma All-State Orchestra for 2016, the North Carolina Regional Honors Orchestra, and this year will have additional appearances in Tennessee and Alaska. Troy has also taught conducting on the faculties of UNC-Greensboro, Wake Forest University, and UNC School of the Arts.
