If you’re looking to get more involved in the performing arts, this week presents some perfect future opportunities.

Those interested in auditioning for the musical Annie should start preparing for Twin City Stage’s tryouts in the lobby of the Arts Council Theatre. Girls ages 6-12 audition Sept. 10, adults audition Sept. 12, 13. Available are lead roles for three men and three women, ages 30-65, seven named orphans, and an ensemble of nine men, nine women and five orphans, ages 7-12. Girls auditioning for Annie will sing “Tomorrow.” Adults should prepare 16 bars of a song that shows off their range and be prepared to read from the script. If you or your kids are simply interested in picking up an extracurricular, check out School of Greensboro Ballet on the third floor of Greensboro Cultural Center. Registration is now open for classes, which include children dance for ages 3-6, classic ballet for ages 7 to adult, jazz for ages 9 and up, and pointe. Classes run August 29-May 19.

Those who just want to sit back and enjoy a performance can do so at the National Black Theatre Festival now through Saturday in Winston-Salem.

Summer Film Festival presents the movie Giant Wednesday and the film Monster Squad Thursday at Carolina Theatre.

Carolina Kids’ Club at Carolina Theatre presents the kids’ show, “The Land Before Time” Wednesday.

Friday through Sunday is the final weekend of Stained Glass Playhouse’s 30 th anniversary production, The Sound of Music.

Get lost in the “Time Warp” with the musical The Rocky Horror Show playing now until Aug. 13 by the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte. Recommended for ages 16 and older.
