The Barn Dinner Theatre provides a night of family-friendly entertainment with its high-energy musical Groovin.’ Playing now until Nov. 20, the show features many chart-topping songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s.

The John Gamble Dance Theatre and Jan Van Dyke Dance Group will showcase their creative and original choreography in a series of 8 p.m. concerts Thursday through Saturday at the UNCG Dance Theatre.

Festival Stage of Winston-Salem presents the enchanting comedy The Exact Center of the Universe-Nov. 6 at Hanesbrands Theatre. The story is set in a small Deep South town during the ‘50s and ‘60s, and revolves around a smothering mother who is forced to let go of her son after he gets married without her permission. The show reflects on the themes of age, change and Southern gossip.

Friday is opening night for Triad Stage’s adaptation of A Doll House, in which everything seems perfect for a wife and mother until a past crime she committed to save her husband threatens to destroy her happy home.

Also starting Friday is the presentation of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, a 1970s cult classic that follows seven black women as they learn to heal from the trauma of emotional, mental and physical abuse. Performances run until Oct. 29 at the Caldcleugh Multicultural Arts Center and contain material not suitable for children.

Theatre Alliance will be resurrecting the frightening hilarity of Bruce Campbell in Evil Dead, the Musical Friday through Sunday, Oct. 30. Based on Sam Raimi’s ‘80s cult classic films, the musical follows a young man and his friends who take a weekend getaway at an abandoned cabin and end up unleashing an ancient evil spirit.

Monday, Hanesbrands Theatre broadcasts The Kitchen, a performance by National Theatre of London, in HD.

Broach Theatre Company will share a bit of Halloween spirit next Wednesday, Oct. 26-Nov. 5 with the thriller Death Trap at Studio B. The show, full of shocks, plot twists and laughs, follows a devilish suspense writer who must devise a cunning plan to turn his fortune around.
