Earshot, a Greenville, sc based company that buys, sells and trades cDs, DVDs and vinyl, has purchased the Record exchange in Winston-salem and plans a grand opening on saturday at 11 a.m. with music starting at 2 p.m.

Located at 3254 silas creek Parkway, opening events include a store-wide sale all day long, food and beverages, and entertainment from local musicians lee and susan Terry, and caleb caudle & the Bayonets. local DJs on site will be DJ84 and Wake Forest University radio Founded in Greenville, sc in January 2004, earshot is a member of the coalition of Independent music stores and their main focus is to cast aside the stereotype of the snobby indie record store and embrace customers of all tastes.

Earshot stocks a deep catalog of everything from underground heavy metal imports, african soul, rare vinyl, cult cinema, mainstream pop to contemporary gospel.

“Our selection is very diverse as is our customer base,” said christopher Ashley, vice president of operations. “earshot is the only independent retailer recognized at the 2009 NARm awards with winners Universal music Group, Best Buy, Top spin media, Big machine, Warner Bros. music Group, etc.”

Continuing, Ashley said, “Upon visiting the Record exchange we saw a similar diverse customer base here in Winston-salem and guys running a store who had a hunger for providing the triad with the sounds and sights they were craving.

“We did a full remodel of the old Record exchange and have been loading it with a similar stock as our Greenville store., he said. “Although, space is limited, we still are able to provide the customers with a very diverse range of music and movies, as well as a very quick special order system. We’ve been selling just as many vinyl lPs here in Ws as used cDs, so there is a great demand for that format here and we hope to continue to to remain fully stocked with rare and new vinyl pressings.”
