After last week’s holiday lull, things are kicking up again in the Piedmont triad, culinarily speaking.

Carolina Blues Coffee & Bagels has opened in Greensboro’s downtown transportation hub, the Depot, featuring… well, you know. And the Emmett and Lee Morphis of Fincastle’s fame will open the Flat Topped Grill in the old barbershop near the corner of Walker and Elam in Greensboro modeled after New York City’s Shake Shack, with the addition of New Orleans-style sno-balls. Note to the Morphises: If you need an extra hyphen, let me know. I’ve probably got one you can use lying around here somewhere.

Also, Harpers restaurant celebrates the reddest fruit of them all with Tomato Fest, featuring menu items like gazpacho, a crab and avocado stack and a dynamite BLT, through August.

On Wednesday, Winston-Salem’s Whole Foods Market demonstrates green grilling with Sabrina featuring charcoal made from coconuts at 3 p.m.

Thursday, Whole Foods gives Part 2 of its Summer’s On! cooking class at 6 p.m. featuring five-bean salad, lime- and curryrubbed hangar steak and mascarpone cake with sherried berries.

Also on Thursday at all Triad Outback Steakhouses, a $20 donation to the Make-A- Wish Foundation is good for a three-course lunch between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Friday is Peach Day at Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. It is also the day EarthFare begins a weekend-long salmon tasting, and when Total Wine & More dishes out free samples of French wines to celebrate Bastille Day.

Saturday is Berry Day at the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market. It is also the day the Fresh Market in Greensboro gives a cooking demonstration of raspberrychipotle-glazed shrimp with summer pasta and vegetable salad, beginning at 3 p.m., and a weekend long sample of FunniBonz Barbecue Sauce atop grilled chicken breast. It is also the day of EarthFare’s wine tasting, beginning at 1 p.m., and its raw foods potluck, beginning at 7 p.m.

Tuesday is Corn Day at Krankie’s Farmers Market.

Also, a sneak peek Taco Bell’s breakfast menu: a double ham and cheddar melt, a sausage skillet burrito, three varieties of breakfast burritos for under a buck and Cinnabon Delights. See you there.
